Fluoride prophylaxis

 Fluoride:

  • It is a chemical element affecting hard tooth tissue.
  • It enters the organism in water, food, toothpaste and dental materials.
  • During eruption teeth are less mineralized, therefore susceptible to decay; a new prophylactic measure was developed - fluoride applications. Only one minute of fluoride gel can protect teeth for 3-4 months.

Fluoride in caries prevention:

  • Effect on teeth: is incorporated in enamel and makes it more resistant to acids produced by bacteria.
  • Used in dentistry in the form of varnish, mouthwash, sealant, also found in toothpastes.

Fluoride application:

  • Fluoride applications are used to prevent tooth decays, also to stop progression of observed lesions.
  • Fluoride in the product is released onto the surface of enamel and makes it more resistant to acids. Fluoride gel is applied onto teeth and kept for 1-4 minutes.
  • Fluoride get or varnish is applied up to 6 times per year.
